Dear St. Andrew's Parish Family,

As most of you are aware, we began the search process for a new Rector in August, 2009.   Through thoughtful prayer and discernment, the Search Committee has recommended and the Vestry unanimously approved the calling of the Reverend Bernard J. Owens ("BJ") to be the new Rector of St. Andrew's.   Bishop Curry has given his blessing and we are ready to embark on our next adventure together.

BJ grew up in Greensboro.   He attended our Lady of Grace for elementary school, and he is a graduate of Grimsley High School.   He completed his undergraduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill, and he completed his seminary studies at Yale University.   BJ comes to us from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cary, North Carolina, where he currently serves as an associate rector.  

BJ, his wife Jo and their 11-month old daughter Amelia will be moving to Greensboro at the beginning of October.   He will celebrate his first service with the St. Andrew's Parish Family on Sunday, October 17th.

Through our focus groups and our surveys of the members of the parish, the Search Committee learned that our parishioners wanted our next rector to be a dynamic, energetic preacher and teacher; a visionary rector who is thought provoking and able to lead us outside of our comfort zone; a good listener and counselor; a capable administrator; and, a rector for whom compassion, integrity, and accessibility are core values.   We feel confident that the Reverend BJ Owens fulfills all of these requirements, and we eagerly await his arrival at St. Andrew's.

We thank you for your patience and faith you have placed in the Search Committee and Vestry during this past year in particular.
